Greensboro Field Office Attends the City of Medicine's (Durham) COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic

The City of Durham Housing Authority (DHA) recently sponsored a Community Health Day at the Weaver Street Recreation Center. The event was co-sponsored by the Durham County Department of Public Health (DCDPH), Optimum Health Services, War 4 Life (COVID testing), Covenant Presbyterian Church, Campaign 4 Change, and Bull City Strong. This vaccination and testing event was open to the residents of Cornwallis Road Apartments residents.

Bull City Strong is a community-based initiative to address the increased risk of contracting, being hospitalized, and dying from COVID-19 among Black, Hispanic, and other historically marginalized populations in Durham County, North Carolina. The DCDPH leads the implementation of evidence-based health literacy interventions to address disparities in health outcomes related to COVID-19. This effort aims to improve health communication; increase access to comprehensive, high-quality health care services; help people get recommended preventive health care services, and promote health and safety in community settings.

Greensboro Field Office Director Roosevelt A. Grant stated: "Working with the DHA to promote COVID vaccination and testing is reflective of our growing partnership with the housing authority and the City of Durham. I applaud Mr. Scott and his team for staying focused on the health and well-being of the housing authority residents."

The City of Durham Housing Authority, Chief Executive Officer Anthony Scott, stated: "With vaccination rates among the lowest in the City in the census tracts that contain our public housing communities, DHA coordinated with several community partners to hold a family vaccination event. This event was organized to ensure that our DHA families could protect themselves from the still dangerous COVID-19 virus. In the early stages of the pandemic, we provided distributed PPE, testing, and COVID-19 information; this is a continuation of our efforts to assist our families in remaining as safe as possible. We want to thank our community partners Campaign 4 Change, Bull City Strong, Covenant Presbyterian Church, and the Durham County Department of Health for making this opportunity possible for our families".
