Food Pantry in Minot Helps Feed Those in Need

The Minot Housing Authority is operating a food pantry in the Milton Young Towers, one of their Public Housing facilities. Resident volunteers run the food pantry, supervised by the Public Housing Service Coordinator. The pantry provides an extra food source to residents, public housing families and homeless individuals. The Milton Young Towers currently houses 220 elderly and disabled low-income residents. The pantry is currently helping 190 residents. Last year the pantry provided household items and food to 162 individuals.

Recipients of the monthly food baskets are required to fill out an application and are required to abide by the food pantry policies and procedures including proof of residency and income. Recipients can receive food once a month and are encouraged to use other local area food pantries. For individuals that have recently been homeless, the pantry helps with immediate needs such as cooking utensils, dishes, cleaning supplies, blankets and pillows.

Community donations from the U.S. Postal Service's annual mail carrier food drive, the Minot Air Force Base food drive and a grant from the Souris Valley United Way help to make the food panty at Milton Young Towers a success.
