On May 7, 2002, HUD's Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development, Roy Bernardi was the keynote speaker at the Families in Transition Fifth Annual Luncheon. During the luncheon, Mr. Bernardi, announced that New Hampshire is receiving $15.3 million in CPD assistance from HUD. The breakdown is $10,368,000 for the Community Development Block Grant Program, $4,522,000 from the HOME program and $436,000 for the Emergency Shelter Grant Program. In addition to the luncheon Families in Transition conducted an Open House at its new facility located at Market and Canal streets. The new facility has 19 apartments and an interim-housing unit, where up to three families can live while waiting to move into the apartments. The units are available to single woman and mothers with children. This new development received funding from various sources including $500,000 of Supportive Housing Program and HOME funds, as well as nine other funding sources to support the total construction of $3,800,000.
