Trenton Housing Authority Receives $22 Million HOPE VI Grant to Revitalize Miller Homes

It was a great day in the State of New Jersey, as Secretary Shaun Donovan, the state's two U.S. Senators, local Congressmen and other dignitaries gathered on June 2nd to celebrate the announcement of two HOPE VI awards totaling $31.7 million to revitalize distressed public housing and transform surrounding neighborhoods. New Jersey received two of only six HOPE VI grants awarded nationwide. The Secretary welcomed new HUD Region II Regional Administrator Adolfo Carrión. Both New Jersey awards featured partnerships with the local Board of Education and the inclusion of early childhood education programs, a priority for the Obama Administration.

In Trenton, the Secretary joined Senator Frank Lautenberg, Senator Robert Menendez, Congressman Rush Holt and Mayor Douglas Palmer to announce a $22 million grant to the Trenton Housing Authority to revitalize Miller Homes. All 256 current units will be demolished, and replaced with a total of 309 units both on- and off-site, including public housing units, market-rate rental units and 127 affordable homeownership units.
