Millennium Way Grand Opening

Newark field Office Director Diane Johnson joined Newark Mayor Cory Booker, Newark Housing Authority (NHA) Executive Director Keith Kinard, NHA Board Chairman Modia Butler, University of Medicine and Dentistry (UMDNJ) Senior Vice President Christopher Kosseff and New Jersey Department of Community Affairs Commissioner Lori Grifa at the grand opening of Millennium Way. The innovative new development in Newark's South Ward is a 56 town home community for low-income families. The development includes an innovative partnership between NHA, UMDNJ, and New Jersey Housing and Mortgage Finance Agency and incorporates 15 units of special needs housing. The University's Behavioral Health Care Department will provide on-site social services in the form of behavioral counseling and essential guidance as families transition from homelessness to housing. The townhomes were equipped with solar panels to improve energy efficiency and reduce energy cost. When completed Millennium Way will include a 4,100 square foot Community Center to house offices for management, social services, and a multipurpose room.
