On Sunday, August 12, 2012 the Terrazza Restaurant and Supremo Supermarket Parking lot was the setting for a Veterans' Stand Down in Perth Amboy, NJ. The Stand Down was hosted by the Jewish Renaissance Foundation, G.I. Go Fund and United Healthcare Community Plan. Newark Equal Opportunity Specialist Lena Mitchell, FHEO Program Compliance Branch Chief Brenda Edmondson, and Senior Management Analyst Carleton Lewis joined the Veterans' Administration, Middlesex County Board of Social Services, Alliance Center for Independence and other public and private organizations providing much needed services to homeless veterans in Middlesex County. HUD staff provided information and assistance on fair housing, HUD-VASH, affordable housing and other HUD programs. Over 90 veterans registered for the all day event to receive haircuts, health screenings, lunch, clothing, care packages, personal care items, information, and referrals for case management and counseling.
