Senior HUD officials BJ Douglass and Director Paula Lincoln, from the Department's Center for Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, recently came to Newark to conduct capacity building and grant writing training for the public, private, and faith-based organizations involved with the Hurricane Sandy recovery effort. Working in conjunction with the Newark Office and the New Jersey Sandy Recovery Field Office's (SRFO) housing working groups, the training was provided to enhance the ability of those agencies involved in Sandy recovery to increase resource development and leverage Federal disaster recovery assistance for private and foundation funding. Newark Office Director Maria Maio-Messano addressed over 160 participants on behalf of the Department and its partners at FEMA. Senior Management Analyst and Sandy Housing Recovery Support Function Lead Carleton Lewis coordinated selection, recruitment and SRFO involvement in the event. Samantha Porter of the NJ Department of Community Affairs gave a presentation on the NJ Sandy Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funding programs at the all-day training seminar, held at Brookdale Community College.
