HUD Newark Multifamily Director Dean Santa recently joined Newark Mayor Ras Baraka; Gayle Chaneyfield Jenkins, Central Ward Council member; Keith Kinard, Executive Director of the Newark Housing Authority; and local and business leaders in a ceremony celebrating the renovation of Geraldine "Gigi" Towers. A formerly substandard public housing complex, Gigi Towers, with over $30 million in proposed renovation, is being transformed into a sparkling new elderly complex. Residents renamed the complex Lincoln Towers. It will house over 200 elderly households and was made possible through a HUD FHA loan of almost $20 million and the Low Income Housing Tax Credit program. Residents will continue to benefit from HUD rental subsidies.
