As a result of the HUD Community Needs Assessment being implemented in the City of Camden, Mayor Dana Redd and City Council President Francisco "Frank" Moran hosted "How to Get Your Piece of the Pie: A Unique Workshop for Camden Small Businesses." The purpose of the event was to connect Camden Small Business owners with contracting opportunities available through local government agencies, large institutions, and Camden-based private companies to help them expand their business. After receiving feedback from a large range of stakeholders through the CNA and Promise Zone processes, the message was clear: jobs and economic opportunity for Camden residents is a priority.

HUD Regional Administrator Holly Leicht, HUD New Jersey Field Office Director Maria Maio-Messano, as well as organizers HUD Senior Management Analysts Alan Gelfand and Angela Aloia attended the event that hosted over 125 Camden business owners eager to engage with government agencies and the private sector.

Business owners attended two workshops: "Contracting Opportunities with Local Government," and "Contracting with Large, Private Institutions." A Resource Fair with representatives from over 30 organizations that provide support and technical assistance to small businesses was the third stop for attendees.
