On Thursday, February 11, HUD Newark Office Director Maria Maio-Messano participated in an Open House for Atrium Apartments in Egg Harbor, NJ. This affordable 84-unit housing development converted a vacant hotel using $5 million in Community Development Block Grant-Disaster Recovery (CDBG-DR) funds, through the NJ Department of Community Affairs' Fund for the Restoration of Multifamily Housing.

This assistance will leverage approximately $16 million in tax credits for the project over the next decade. Priority was given to rental applicants who were displaced by Hurricane Sandy. The complex features a recreation area, controlled building access with security cameras, a laundry facility on each floor, a six-story, sky-lighted atrium, and on-site tenant storage.

Other participants at the event included Egg Harbor Township Administrator Peter Miller; Anthony Marchetta, Executive Director of the NJ Housing & Mortgage Finance Agency (HMFA); developer Ron Rukenstein of Rukenstein & Associates; Staci Berger, President of the Housing & Community Development Network of NJ; Robins' Nest Inc. President & CEO Anthony DiFabio; and Laura Rodgers, Chief Program Officer of Jewish Family Services of Atlantic County.
