Phillipsburg, New Jersey - The pandemic has not stopped the New Jersey Youth Corps of Phillipsburg (NJYCP). NJYCP is a Phillipsburg EnVision Center partner and a state-funded, locally operated program serving young adults aged 16-25 without a high school diploma. Although the pandemic resulted in a shift to a digital platform for its curriculum, NJYCP found unique ways to identify service opportunities for its members. Utilizing some resources from a New Jersey Department of Transportation grant, staff installed 25 wrought-iron hanging flower baskets along South Main Street in the business district. With funds from a COVID-19 Relief Fund from the Corps Network, NJYCP was able to procure Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (masks, gloves, sanitizers, etc.) that would allow them to return to work with the PPE they needed to remain safe. The Phillipsburg program has worked with over 1,000 young men and women providing over 200,000 hours of service to the Phillipsburg community since its inception.
