U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Regional Administrator for New York and New Jersey, Lynne Patton, presented two ceremonial checks to City of Paterson Mayor André Sayegh to highlight $3.4M Lead-Based Paint Hazard Reduction Grant and $8,072,119 in Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act emergency funding. U.S. Senator Menendez, U.S. Senator Cory Booker, U.S. Congressman Bill Pascrell, and City of Paterson Council Members Dr. Lilisa Mimms and Luis Velez were in attendance to highlight federal assistance to the Silk City.

"New Jersey was the epicenter of the COVID-19 global pandemic, and Paterson residents and businesses know that Secretary Carson moved quickly to suspend evictions and ensure New Jerseyans had the resources to endure the effects of this devastating crisis," said Lynne Patton, HUD Regional Administrator for New York and New Jersey. "HUD's historic CARES Act funding is a continuing lifeline for Patersonians that will continue to provide critical assistance for all Americans."

HUD provided $3.4 million to the City of Paterson through its Lead-Based Paint Hazard Reduction (LBPHR) Grant Program to address lead hazards in 66 housing units for low and very low-income families with children. The funding includes $400,000 from HUD's Healthy Homes Supplemental funding to help communities with housing-related health and safety hazards in addition to lead-based paint hazards. The City will be working with medical and social service providers.

"The City of Paterson is always appreciative of funding from our federal partners," said Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh. "The health and safety of our residents is a priority be it through lead poisoning prevention funded by the Lead-Based Paint Hazard Reduction grant or funding the ongoing battle in the war with COVID-19. The provided funding will help ensure that we have the resources necessary to keep our residents protected."

HUD CARES Act funding use is determined by the locality receiving the award, and the City of Paterson can utilize the funding for its residents' greatest needs.
