HUD Newark Office of Field Policy and Management (FPM) partnered with Zufall Health, a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) funded by HHS and HRSA, for a COVID vaccine clinic for ages 12 and up in Phillipsburg, New Jersey on August 26. The clinic resulted in 57 COVID-19 vaccinations and 50+ inoculations for pediatric school-required shots.

Through the HUD and HHS joint-agency effort to increase access to COVID-19 vaccinations for HUD-assisted households, the collaboration between HUD New Jersey FPM and Zufall Health resulted in a coordinated effort from the local health system and community partners for the clinic, including the Housing Authority, EnVision Center, and School District in Phillipsburg. The vaccine clinic at the Early Childhood Learning Center included gift cards, school backpacks, fresh produce and food, and nutrition education for participants. Zufall Health, Warren County Health Department, and St. Luke's University Health Network incorporated their community health efforts to successfully provide participants with various health services.

As a result of the health and housing partnership, 40 residents pre-registered and an impressive 57 received the COVID-19 vaccine with over 50 students receiving one or more of their childhood school immunizations, and additional services for HIV/STI testing and education were provided to participants. HUD Newark conducted outreach through the Phillipsburg Housing Authority and local HUD Multifamily developments. HUD Newark Field Office Director Justin Scheid and Zufall Health Chief Executive Officer Eva Turbiner discussed further potential long-term health efforts that can support HUD-assisted households in Phillipsburg and future collaboration across New Jersey communities.
