Partners addressing flooding and climate change were empowered to collaborate this month as HUD Newark field staff and the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary, an EPA-designated Urban Waters Federal Partnership location held a webinar series: "Urban Waters: Envisioning Equitable & Resilient Housing." This three-part series focused on the intersection of environment justice, equity, housing and community development, and shared best practices, local work, and resources to help practitioners approach the challenge in a more holistic manner. The three webinars were held on successive Tuesdays in January with over 55 participants in each session.

The Delaware River Estuary is one of 20 sites in the Urban Waters Federal Partnership, a 15-federal agency coalition that supports the work of local sites run by a site ambassador and a committee of local partners. In November, Assistant Deputy Secretary Michele Perez participated in a federal recommitment event in support of the Urban Waters Federal Partnership Coalition. The recommitment event highlighted the successes achieved in the first ten years of the partnership and the strategy guiding the next ten years of this work.

During the third session, New Jersey Field Office Director Justin Scheid shared HUD's Climate Action Plan and updates on the Camden Promise Zone and the Ablett Village Choice Neighborhood.

Participants also heard from representatives of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection, FEMA, U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, and case studies from Jacksonville and New Orleans. The webinar series was organized by Urban Waters Coordinator with the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary Erica Rossetti and HUD-Newark Program Analyst Roberto Frugone. All three one-hour sessions are available online via the Partnership for the Delaware Estuary YouTube page (DEESTUARY).
