Jeanette Salas completed her Family Self-Sufficiency contract four years ahead of schedule and just in time for National Homeownership Month. Jeanette has been a Section 8 rental assistance client with the Socorro County Housing Authority (SCHA) for 19 years. By completing her contract, she is awarded an escrow account totaling nearly $5,000.

Jeanette was very excited when the SCHP decided to implement the second Section 8 Voucher Homeownership program in the state and she was one of the first to sign on as well as being the first homebuyer in the program!

On June 6th, the New Mexico Partners in Homeownership (HUD, USDA, Fannie Mae, NM Mortgage Finance Authority and the Enterprise Foundation) helped "warm" Jeanette's new home with hearty congratulations and well wishes from such dignitaries as U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce (R-NM2), NM Senator Ben Altamirano, Socorro City Councilor Gary Jaramillo, and a myriad of representatives from various community agencies and organizations. Several members of Jeanette's extended family joined the group in the celebration. The Partners also presented the family with a housewarming gift, a new toaster oven.
