BBQ and Homeownership

The Las Vegas Housing Authority hosted a BBQ recently for their 5-H program. The partnership for this project included Habitat for Humanity-Las Vegas Affiliate, Samaritan House, Estrella Nativa and Highland University.

Acting NM Field Office Director Marsha Webb, PIH Director, Floyd Duran and PHR Specialist Mandy Griego attended the event along with the Mayor of Las Vegas the Partners and about twenty-five supporters.

This particular project is rehabbing existing public housing and converting them into single-family housing. The result of the rehab is a wonderful, three-bedroom home located on large lots. Also constructed on each housing lot is storage shed.

The neighborhood has been transformed as a result of this project, which in the past, had been a drug-trafficking area.

The collaboration between the partners and the Las Vegas Housing Authority is a true testimony as to what can happen when partnerships and a community unite for change.
