ARRA Success Story - Sunland Park City Housing Authority

The Sunland Park City Housing Authority (SPCHS) used its $88,739 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds to re-roof its public housing units, which were in dire need of repair. SPCHA awarded the re-roofing contract to a local company who sub-contracted the job to a smaller company that was struggling to keep its employees working. Before the contract award, the small company was going to lay-off five of its employees, but SPCHA's re-roofing ARRA funded project saved these jobs. HUD's ARRA funds not only improved the appearance of SPCHA's public housing units, but also increased their lifespan, as well as, assisted a small business retain its employees.
