Las Vegas Field Office and First Preston Management, HUD's Marketing and Management Contractor, of Dallas, Texas conducted a seminar to attract first-time homebuyers to the process of purchasing HUD owned properties and to encourage homeownership for minorities.

The event was held at the East Las Vegas Senior Community Center on Saturday, May 31, 2003. Attendance for the event reached over 400 persons. In depth training sessions of the process of purchasing a HUD home were held in both English and Spanish.

Ms. Nancy T. Richards, President of First Preston Management, Inc., personally came to Las Vegas along with 4 of her staff members from Dallas, Texas. Her staff, Mr. Ed Ott, contract manager, and other staff of the Santa Ana Region also joined Ms. Richards. Althea Satterfield White, Vice President, Outreach First Preston Management, Dallas, Texas shared pictures of Las Vegas HUD Homes and the Guidebook to Buying a Home from HUD with the audience.

The Las Vegas HUD Office and First Preston partnered to make the Homebuyer Seminar a great success for potential homebuyers. Besides the training, participants also were given a $500.00 certificate to be used towards closing cost on the purchase of a HUD Home. Participants also received a First Preston Guidebook to Buying a Home from HUD; a list of Southern Nevada HUD registered participating brokers and a list of current homes for sale. Participants were afforded opportunities to meet with the Southern Nevada Housing Counseling agencies that provided them with the necessary counseling needed to purchase a HUD Home. Prospective buyers were observed smiling with anticipation while waiting to be issued a $500.00 certificate.
