Summer Business Students - We had two more during this summer, the 11th and 12th
Andrelle Stanley is the eleventh student and Nika Ayanna Sewell is the twelfth student that the HUD, Las Vegas Field Office staff has mentored from the Summer Business institute (SBI). The Las Vegas HUD office has supported this program every summer since 2002. Each year the Las Vegas Staff receives two (SBI) students that which to work in the Las Vegas HUD office. Those are based on their future career choices. The institute is sponsored by a partnership Of the Clark County Government and over 70 Southern Nevada Businesses. They promote summer employment for inner city high school students that are juniors, seniors, and also college freshmen. Andrelle Stanley was placed with the Las Vegas HUD office this summer. She was required to work and learn various programs in support of HUD goals. She recently graduated from Arbor View High School, Las Vegas, Nevada with high honors and the Advanced Honors diploma with a weighted Grade Point Average (GPA) of 4.4. Throughout high school she was active in several groups including: Future Business Leaders of America, Key Club, and Best Buddies. In the fall she will be attending the University of Arizona in Tucson, Arizona. She will major in Political Science. Her long term goal is to attend law school to become a lawyer, judge, or politician. Andrelle stated that she was very enthusiastic for the experience that she gained from working with HUD. She quoted, "I am very fortunate to have worked here because it is going to open many doors for me in the future. It's been a remarkable experience and I couldn't thank my mentors enough for everything that they have taught me here. I've never been surrounded by so many people that care this much about the youth!" Andrelle felt that HUD was the perfect place to intern because her future aspirations are to become a professional in the federal government.
Nika Ayanna Sewell, also, another outstanding student is currently a junior at Valley High School was our 12th student. She was assigned to the Las Vegas HUD office. Her placement has allowed Nika to participate in a variety of housing issues that are facing the Las Vegas community.
