RA Adolfo Carrión with Joseph Shuldiner, Executive Director of the Yonkers Public Housing Authority (his staff is in the background) |
Regional Administrator Adolfo Carrión recently visited the City of Yonkers in Westchester County and joined Joseph Shuldiner, Executive Director of the Yonkers Public Housing Authority to see first-hand how HUD funds are being used to create mixed-income, economically viable communities. Shuldiner brought Carrión to tour the former site of an old public housing complex called Mulford Gardens that was torn down to make way for a 85-unit family complex opening in December. Carrión also viewed a new, 15-unit apartment complex that was built on the site of a derelict firehouse, as well as a new 49-unit senior housing complex. The tour also included a stop at Cottage Place Gardens, a troubled housing development on the west side of the city. Carrión learned that the City is applying for a Choice Neighborhood grant this month to plan for the transformation of Cottage Place Gardens and the surrounding community.
