Three members from the New York Regional Office joined officials from other federal domestic agencies at two Federal Grant Information Sessions hosted by Representative Nydia Velazquez on March 12th. The first session took place in the morning at Brooklyn Borough Hall, with an afternoon session taking place at the Henry Street Settlement in Manhattan's Lower East Side. Each session drew over 100 people, most of whom represented non-profit service providers. Other federal agencies participating in the sessions included the Departments of Health and Human Services, Education, and Labor.

HUD's participation was coordinated by Henry Comas from the Office of Field Policy Management. Larry Hirsch from Community Planning and Development discussed a number of programs, including the competitive Supportive Housing Program (SHP) and Block Grant Programs, such as HOME, CDBG and the stimulus program. Larry also explained how the process works for the SHP competition and how groups can work with their local governments to access Block Grant funds. Arvette Segar-Osby from the NY Multifamily HUB discussed the Section 202 and 811 programs, including the programs' recent changes, the programs' new requirements, and what is needed for a successful application.
