To help kickoff June as National Homeownership Month, Neighborhood Housing Services (NHS) of Northern Queens joined with NeighborWorks America to set up a Homeownership Tent at Duffy Square in Times Square on Friday, June 1. The "mock" Homeownership Center had sections that represented various homeownership services. Upon entering the center, "guests" followed the "footsteps" to each specific service. The "footsteps" guided guests on the path/steps to information on pre- and post-purchase education, responsible lending, home maintenance training, and ways to protect themselves against homeownership fraud and scam. Guests also received information about the latest NHS and NeighborWorks' local events. Volunteers spread across 46th and 47th Streets and disseminated homeownership information to passersby and gave out thousands of fliers, postcards and giveaways. The celebration marked NHS's 30th anniversary, and helps build on the success of the 2010 Loan Scam event in Manhattan, which kicked off 2010 NeighborWorks Week.

Some of NHS and NeighborWorks' partners who dropped by to lend support included HUD, the New York State (NYS) Dept. of State Division of Consumer Protection, and the NYS Dept. of Financial Services.
