Secretary Julián Castro and Deputy Secretary Nani Coloretti congratulate Deputy Regional Administrator Mirza Orriols on her selection to the HUD 50.

Deputy Regional Administrator Mirza Orriols was honored at HUD Headquarters in Washington, DC on January 19, 2016 when she was officially recognized as one of the "HUD 50". The HUD 50 is a collection of public servants who have distinguished themselves as agency leaders in making a difference at HUD. Chosen to commemorate HUD's 50th Anniversary, their dedication and commitment to ensuring all Americans have safe, affordable, and sustainable communities is vital to the Department's mission. Joining HUD's Chief Administration Office Pat Hoban-Moore, Mrs. Orriols was one of two honorees to deliver remarks on behalf of the group. She spoke of her parent's immigration from Puerto Rico and her early days at HUD, thanking the many who provided mentorship and guidance along her journey.

Mrs. Orriols has lead by example even when faced with overwhelming conditions such as natural disasters (Hurricanes Katrina and Hugo), economic constraints, or unsafe conditions. Her most recent role was during Hurricane Sandy, where thousands of families in New York & New Jersey were displaced because of the storm. She assembled and managed a team that worked and continues to work tirelessly in helping those affected. Mirza has been appointed on three different occasions to serve as the Secretary's Designee to manage housing authorities: Camden, NJ, New Orleans, LA and in the US Virgin Islands. She is a prime example of a servant leader, taking the time every morning to walk the floors and address the staff in the office. Even though she is one of HUD's heroes, Mirza is humbly committed to ensuring that HUD's mission is carried out to the fullest.

Truly, she is an inspiration, making all of HUD Region II proud! Learn more about HUD's 50th Anniversary at hud50.hud.gov.
