HUD Region II Senior Management Analyst and Homeless Coordinator Samuel Miller, a tireless advocate for the homeless in New York and New Jersey, participated in the point-in-time count of homeless youth held on February 9 throughout New York City.

Youth were counted a day after the regular yearly count; volunteers surveyed teenagers and young adults that were brought into multiple locations in the five New York boroughs, Manhattan, The Bronx, Queens, Brooklyn, and Staten Island.

Sam Miller volunteered at The Door, a non-profit organization in Manhattan that serves 'disconnected' youth with health, mental health, and legal appointments; as well as GED and ESOL classes, tutoring, homework and career training.

The homeless count, which is typically held the last week in January, was postponed due to a major snowstorm in the New York City metro area.
