HUD Region II RA Lynne Patton Tours Staten Island HUD-funded sites
HUD Region II Regional Administrator Lynne Patton was invited by Congressman Dan Donovan to tour Staten Island HUD-funded properties and projects to better understand the needs of borough residents and HUD-subsidized tenants. The first stop was Park Hill Apartments, a project-based Section 8 multifamily building that received multiple tenant complaints. RA Patton walked through the building, listened to tenants, and expressed her commitment to address maintenance deficiencies in units and common areas. Congressman Donovan and his staff took RA Patton and her team to the second stop; a single-family home damaged by Hurricane Sandy that received CBDG-DR funding through New York State's Build It Back Program. Homeowner Lori Widlund explained the challenges she faced during her years-long process to repair and elevate her home, and expressed optimism for a safer and more resilient future. RA Patton, Congressman Donovan and local elected officials also visited the future site of HUD Rebuild by Design competition winner Living Breakwaters, an offshore project that will reduce risk, revive ecologies, and connect residents and educators to Staten Island's southeast shoreline. This area was severely impacted by Hurricane Sandy and Living Breakwaters will protect the shoreline and its residents from future storms. ### |
