HUD AWARDS $45,000 TO CATSKILL HOUSING AUTHORITY FOR SECURITY CAMERA INSTALLATION
Catskill Housing Authority Receives One of Two Grants Made Statewide

NEW YORK - In an effort to address emergency, safety and security needs, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today awarded $45,000 to the Catskill Housing Authority to help fight crime and drug activities at its Hop-O-Nose Homes development. The funding announced today is part of $6 million awarded nationwide to help secure public housing and one of two grants announced in New York State, with the other going to the New York City Housing Authority

HUD's Capital Fund Emergency Safety and Security Program supports public housing authorities as they address safety and security threats that pose a risk to the health and safety of public housing residents due to violent crimes or property related crimes within the public housing community. These grants may be used to install, repair, or replace capital needs items including security systems/surveillance cameras, fencing, lighting systems, emergency alarm systems, window bars, deadbolt locks and doors.

"All Americans should feel secure when they're at home," said HUD Secretary Julián Castro. "These grants provide our local partners with new tools to enhance the strength and vitality of their neighborhoods. Now, more families will be able to walk to school, get to work and safely access opportunity."

"NYCHA's community outreach consistently shows that public safety is a top priority of their residents," said Holly Leicht, HUD Regional Administrator for New York and New Jersey. "With these funds, HUD is providing the residents of Hop-O-Nose Homes with a state-of-the art security camera system proven to reduce crime and bring those that break the law to justice."
