Consumer Protection Week
to Focus on Identity Theft

Identity theft is the fastest growing white-collar crime in the United States. Every day, most citizens conduct some type of financial transaction revealing a little piece of their financial identity - a bank account, a social security number, date of birth, or some other personal fact. These small pieces can be tied together to allow a thief to assume someone else's identity and to steal from their bank accounts, make purchases, take a vacation, or to ruin their good credit. As part of consumer protection week, the Federal Executive Association (FEA) of Columbus and Central Ohio has prepared a flier to provide federal employees and others in the area with information to protect against fraud. Also, HUD has many resources on our Consumer Information page. Information on Consumer Information week in Ohio is available at http://www.ohioconsumers.org/. http://www.consumer.gov/ is the federal website offering comprehensive information about how consumers can protect themselves.
