Free CEH Training For Real Estate Professionals!

On September 8, the Southern Plains Office of Native American Programs will be hosting a special session for real estate professionals. The free training will qualify for three Continuing Education Hours and will cover the Section 184 Indian Housing Loan Guarantee Program. The program has seen rapid growth during the past year.

As of July 2004, more than 400 Section 184 loans have been guaranteed in Oklahoma at a value of over $30.9 million. For the current year, there have been twice as many loans guaranteed as there were a year ago.
Homeownership in Indian Country can be a mortgage lending challenge due to land status; diversity of tribal laws and governments; lack of mortgage information; homebuyer skills; homebuyer education; and capital.
Recently, Assistant Secretary Michael Liu spoke with participants of the Southern Plains Regional Housing Summit emphasizing local solutions to local problems. He also stressed the need to use the appropriations for Section 184 to demonstrate the continuing need to fund these programs. "Now is the time for a leap forward and a good time to make it all happen."
