Former homeless help others in need during holiday food drive
Since its inception in 1982, Ms. Alma Speed Fox has coordinated the Freedom Unlimited Annual Holiday Food Drive with the help of many volunteers from the community. What distinguishes this holiday season from those of the past is the addition of three new faces to this "volunteer family".
Charlotte, Mary, and Rafe are new to Freedom Unlimited and its Holiday Food Drive.
They are hardworking, energetic, and passionate about the volunteer work they do there. These traits are not what make them unique, however. They also happen to be residents of House of the Crossroads, a HUD subsidized bridge transitional housing program for the homeless.
Their intent faces are only one indication of how serious they take their volunteer positions. They know how it feels to go hungry, to have a holiday with no celebration. This makes their task all the more precious- they will help feed 500 families this Christmas. Each package they prepare will contain a turkey and all the trimmings to prepare a traditional holiday dinner for up to 10 people.
Alma Speed Fox and her three new friends will hold their memories of this food drive close to their hearts forever. The spirit of volunteering lives on and is one of the most valuable gifts we can give ourselves.
