Lifting Our Carbon Footprint

HUD's Pittsburgh Field Office Celebrates Energy Awareness Month

FPM Intern Tim DiSalvio Makes Green the Preferred Office Color

Did you know that if you just turn off your computer monitor every night, we save $42 per computer per year? Now, $42 times 9000 HUD employees would save $378,000 each year!

Historically, the office workplace has been the site of heavy resource consumption. Lighting, powering office equipment and paper consumption are simply a few of the ways in which we use energy and resources in the workplace. The Pittsburgh Field Office is committed to breaking that trend and emphasizing the three Rs: Reduce, Reuse and Recycle.

To recognize Energy Awareness Month, Pittsburgh's "Green Team" organized a special event on October 27, 2009 to raise "Green Office" awareness. The event gave Pittsburgh staff a chance to participate in an informative presentation on "Green Office" tips and share ideas on how to improve energy efficiency in our workplace. Topics included reducing paper waste, limiting light usage, recycling, reusing lunchroom items and rethinking our commute.

"Green Office" awareness is certainly catching hold in the Pittsburgh Field Office. The workshop indicated the positive environmental impact that a collective group can have when everyone pitches in and shares new ideas. HUD's interest in energy efficiency is high and the Pittsburgh Field Office is working to exemplify this mission of sustainability.
