HOME Sweet Home!

Friendship Commons complex in Brighton Township

Located in Brighton Township in Beaver, PA, Friendship Commons is a 24-unit apartment complex for the elderly. Constructed in part using HUD HOME program funds, Friendship Commons was built adjacent to the county nursing home for residents to readily access supportive services if needed. By offering preventative health care, it is hoped that nursing home placement can be forestalled.

Each of the 24 units is a one-room efficiency apartment with a bed, recliner, kitchen, bathroom, air conditioning and two windows. All are fully wheelchair-accessible. A community center with fully-equipped kitchen, patio, computer/library center and a wellness center are also available for residents' use.

Residents must be at least 62 years old with a maximum income of $22,050. Residents pay 30% of their adjusted monthly income for rent and pay for electricity.

The project was sponsored by the Beaver County Community Housing Development Organization, through two Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA) programs, and the Beaver County Community Development office.
