Industrial River's Edge Transformed into "Green" Space

Officials attend the South Shore Riverfront Park Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

"South Shore Riverfront" is an urban park project that has transformed the industrial riverscape at the Monongahela River shoreline into a key link within the City of Pittsburgh's trail system. This trail completes the "Great Allegheny Passage," a 318 mile continuous biking and hiking trail system connecting Pittsburgh, PA with Washington, DC. The total project cost was $13 million, which included $1.4 million of HUD Section 108 Loan Guarantee funding.

HUD Pittsburgh Field Office Director Jane E. Miller, CPD Director John E. Tolbert and Environmental Officer Michael Whitelock attended the South Shore Riverfront Park ribbon cutting ceremony held on May 2, 2012, along with Pittsburgh Mayor Luke Ravenstahl and many other local funders and supporters.
