Joe DeFelice, Regional Administrator of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Mid-Atlantic region, visited Pottsville, PA on October 3, 2017, to serve as a guest speaker at the Schuylkill County Realtors Housing Summit held at Alvernia University (Schuylkill Center). After the summit, he met with Craig Shields, the executive director of the Pottsville Housing Authority.

He then toured HUD-funded community development projects in the city like Garfield Square, where sidewalks are being reconstructed.

Since his appointment in May, DeFelice has been touring the region visiting local partners and elected officials. He has toured a wide range of HUD-assisted communities-from public housing to homeless service programs and community development projects.

"I want to see HUD's public-private partnerships at work," said DeFelice. "I want to see and hear firsthand what's working well and how we can do better."

HUD's Mid-Atlantic region includes Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia. The regional office is in Philadelphia.
