HUD investment of $1.4 million from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program

HUD's programs and services in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands have a profound impact in the lives of a large number of individuals, like the 12 families who moved to Maricao, a modern and spacious apartment building in Barrio Pueblo Nuevo thanks to an investment of $1.4 million from the Neighborhood Stabilization Program, and the 9,000 families benefiting from the revitalization of public housing units in Los Rosales; another example is the first affordable housing complex for seniors to be built in Utuado with help of a HUD grant for $5.7 million. In the Virgin Islands, the first affordable housing development in 20 years, the 102-unit Louis E. Brown public housing complex was recently inaugurated. These and many more projects are reflected in a report recently issued highlighting the accomplishments made by the HUD San Juan Office during fiscal year 2012.

"The housing projects you will see in this bulletin are a testament to the creativity, dedication, and resourceful administration with which HUD grantees make these projects happen", said Efrain Maldonado, HUD Field Office Director for Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. "Our grantees serve the hungry, give shelter to those without homes; they lend a hand and an ear to those with true need. And this is the greatest reward; to see that the federal funds that we channel through our office are passed down to the people of Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands through the capable hands of our industry partners."
