The Golden Residences: Affordable elderly housing reaches Puerto Rico

The Golden Residences is a first of its kind in Puerto Rico. Built to offer independent living to the elderly, its modern technology and attention to detail has turned it into a very popular housing alternative. Recently opened, 130 of its 160 units are already occupied.

Built in part with $12 million from HUD's HOME program, it is located in Floral Park, Hato Rey. This 14-story building, near hospitals and transportation, has fully equipped one-bedroom units, reading room, gym, playroom, and offers security. Solar panels provide 75% of the electricity needed for common areas. The total cost of the project is $21.6 million. Prospective residents must meet income eligibility requirements and need to be able to live independently.
