In Puerto Rico: Fighting Homelessness Together

[Belinda Hill, Sólo Por Hoy Executive Director]

The Department recognizes the importance of ending and preventing homelessness. This is why the Offices of Public and Indian Housing (PIH) and Community Planning and Development (CPD) have teamed up to develop cross-cutting, cross-programmatic tools and resources to encourage and support our local public housing authorities (PHAs) and Continuum of Care organizations (CoCs) in developing effective partnerships to effectively and efficiently leverage their local resources to better understand and engage their homeless populations at the community level.

Following this path, recently Federal probation officers were briefed by the HUD San Juan team on housing and supportive services available. The officers expressed their interest in how to help their clientele match their varied needs and specific situations with a HUD program.

This interaction enhanced the working relationship to achieve HUD's strategic goal of Rethink American Communities. For details, please access U.S. Department of Housing and Urban development 2018-2022 Strategic Plan on HUD's website.
