The Tribal Veterans Service Office of the Sisseton-Wahpeton Sioux Tribe and the Sioux Falls HUD Office helped kick off National Homeownership Month with the first ever VA Stand Down and Homebuyer Fair on May 30 and 31. The fair was held at the Pow-Wow grounds in the Agency Village. Local banks, the Northeast South Dakota Community Action Program, USDA's Rural Development, Fannie Mae, the Small Business Administration and others distributed homeownership information. Additional information about employment assistance opportunities and drug and alcohol abuse treatment was available.

On Saturday afternoon, a traditional Pow-Wow entertained the fair attendees. This Native American tradition dazzled onlookers with traditional music, costumed dancers, and a tribute to veterans.
