A coordinated effort between the Sioux Falls HUD Field Office, Falls Community Health the local FQHC and Horizons Apartments resulted in shots in arms for residents of the apartment community. Horizons Apartments is a 64-unit Tax Credit property consisting of a very diverse population. The property houses a number of formerly homeless families that participate in the Rapid Rehousing program through Interlakes Community Action Partnership, and families that are recipients of Housing Choice Vouchers. The vaccination clinic did not have as many participants as hoped but nurse Katie from the health center said that if only one had shown up it would have been worth it because it means one more person is vaccinated.

One of the residents being vaccinated brought her five children with her, the oldest (about 11 years old) was her interpreter. It was very obvious she was scared but her oldest daughter held her hand and the nurse administering the shot provided comfort. After she was vaccinated, she was all smiles and said it did not hurt. She was happy that she had the opportunity to become vaccinated.
