Energy Awareness and "Energy Star: Change a Light, Change the World" Campaign

On Wednesday, October 31, 2007, the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's Nashville Field Office held an Energy Awareness Event at Trevecca Towers, one of the Nashville Office's approved elderly Section 202 developments in Nashville, to raise awareness of the need to reduce energy consumption and energy costs. This event, hosted by the Owner of the Towers, Trevecca Management Company, featured comments by the owner.

They described renovation actions taken to reduce energy demand and costs at the property by replacing 624 single pane windows with new double-paned windows at a cost of $369,000; replacing all 60 watt incandescent light bulbs with 12 watt florescent ones; replacing all T-12, 40 watt fluorescent bulbs with new T-8 high output, low energy bulbs and ballasts, and other initiatives.

Nashville Field Office Director Bill Dirl and Multi-Family Programs Center Director, Ed Phillips, made remarks and presented a Certificate of Appreciation to the Residents, Owner and the Management Agent for their achievements. A large number of residents attended the event and representatives of Senator Lamar Alexander attended, as well.

Other events are scheduled to show recognition and appreciation for efforts HUD's clients, partners and entitlement communities are doing to reduce energy throughout Middle Tennessee - the Nashville Office's jurisdiction. Last May 2007, Nashville hosted one of the most strategic energy conferences in the nation with a highly-recognized panel of energy savings experts and attendees from across the State of Tennessee.
