HUD's Work Matters in Tennessee

The Nashville Field Office Celebrated Public Service Recognition Week hosting an Employee Appreciation Day on May 11, 2017 as two guest speakers provided moving remarks about how their lives changed because of the work of HUD Nashville employees. Their heartfelt comments were both moving and inspiring for all in attendance.

Their uplifting stories told of two Metropolitan Development and Housing Agency residents that leveraged the advantages of public housing and more specifically MDHA's Family Self Sufficiency services to improve their careers resulting in one resident, Shannon Bean, becoming the first member of her family to purchase a home and another, Kena Brown, to graduate from Tennessee State University with a nursing degree on May 6, 2017.

The staff was also encouraged by the words of Mrs. Connie Martin, Assistant Director of Affordable housing that extolled the passion and dedication of her staff and the opportunities HUD affords MDHA's public housing residents. After the presenters shared their stories, Field Office Director Sernorma Mitchell recognized several staff members that had tenures with HUD ranging from ten years to thirty-five years. Following the stories, the speakers and agency representatives joined HUD staff for a friendly game of HUD Family Feud. At the conclusion of the program, HUD employees expressed their feelings as they related that it was rewarding to see how they have helped those in need and to also feel their sincere appreciation for a job well done.
