ZULEIKA MORALES-ROMERO NAMED HUD SAN ANTONIO FIELD OFFICE DIRECTOR
HUD Region VI Regional Administrator Tammye Treviño has announced that Zuleika Morales-Romero has been named as the Field Office Director (FOD) for HUD's San Antonio Field Office, effective August 7, 2016. As the FOD, Ms. Morales-Romero will be responsible for overseeing all of HUD's programs in the 57 Texas counties in the San Antonio office's jurisdiction.
"Ms. Morales-Romero joins a dynamic team in Region VI and in the San Antonio Field Office," said Field Policy and Management Assistant Deputy Secretary, Mary McBride. "Zuleika is an effective leader, a successful collaborator, a team builder and an out-of-the-box thinker. She is knowledgeable of HUD's programs and partner resources, and has a strong commitment to our place based work, especially to our Promise Zone communities. She will be a great addition to the leadership team Regional Administrator Treviño has developed."
Previous to her becoming the San Antonio FOD, Ms. Morales-Romero was a Field Operations Director in HUD's Office of Field Policy and Management (FPM) in Washington, D.C., where she coordinated HUD place-based initiatives in field offices across the country including Promise Zones and Community Needs Assessments.
Before moving to FPM, she served as the Division Director of HUD's Office of Healthy Homes and Lead Hazard Control (OHHLHC) Lead Programs Enforcement, charged with enforcing HUD's lead regulations. During her tenure, the OHHLHC settled 10 Lead Disclosure Rule cases, which resulted in making more than 3500 housing units lead safe.
Previous to that, she was the Grants and Budget Director of HUD's Office of Sustainable Housing and Communities (OSHC), where she participated in the Partnership for Sustainable Communities, administering 143 grants and managing a portfolio of over $225 million dollars.
Ms. Morales-Romero began her career in the housing arena in 1999, and joined HUD in 2003 in Office of Lead Hazard Control.
"I am thrilled that Zuleika has agreed to come to Region VI and that she is bringing her HQ expertise with her," said Regional Administrator Treviño. "With her leadership skills, professionalism and enthusiasm for HUD's mission, I know that the San Antonio Field Office's legacy of outstanding service to the community will continue. I am extremely grateful to FPM Assistant Deputy Secretary Mary McBride for making this possible."
Ms. Morales-Romero received a bachelor of arts degree in economical sciences from the Universidad Mayor de San Simon, Bolivia. She was a Jan Tinbergen Scholar, completing a program in Human Geography and Planning at the Universteit of Utrecht, Netherlands.
"While I have enjoyed my years in Washington, I'm truly excited for the opportunity to move to the San Antonio Field Office and see HUD's programs at work on the community level," Ms. Morales-Romero said.
