MILES SELECTED AS DIRECTOR OF HUD RICHMOND

RICHMOND - William P. "Bill" Miles of King William County has been selected as the Richmond Field Office Director for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. His appointment is effective Sunday, February 6, 2005.

He succeeds Mary Ann Wilson who retired on January 1, 2005, after 14 years as the office's Director.

Miles, 61, is a 20-year veteran of HUD. Before joining its Field Policy and Management division, he also had served
in its single-family, multi-family, public housing and administrative divisions. On a number of occasions, he also has served as the office's acting Director.

HUD Richmond is responsible for HUD programs in all of Virginia, except for the cities of Alexandria and Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun and Prince William counties.

In a typical year, the Federal Housing Administration, a part of HUD, insures some 25,000 new mortgages in HUD Richmond's jurisdiction. In addition, HUD Richmond's jurisdiction includes more than 740 HUD-assisted multi-family complexes, 23 "entitlement" communities receiving nearly $100 million annually in community development funds,
and 39 housing authorities with almost 20,000 households. Another 40,000 households in Virginia receive Housing Choice rental assistance vouchers.
