FAMILY-A-FAIR, Tri-Cities is a two-day community event full of resources, ideas and fun for parents and kids.

The 9th annual Tri-Cities Family-a-Fair was held October 18 and 19, 2003, at the TRAC in Pasco, WA. An estimated 13, 000 parents, grandparents, children, and vendors attended.

At Family-a-Fair, parents learn about a wide variety of valid and effective approaches to parenting and family life. The two-day fair provides families the opportunity to see demonstrations on health care and educational tools, meet with local case workers and service providers, and gather information about community resources, fire- and crime-prevention, entertainment, housing, and more. Over 100 vendors from all walks of life supported this year's event.

Family-a-Fair is operated by Family Emphasis, a non-profit grass-roots community organization. The HUD Spokane Field Office joined local housing and community development partners in providing information on fair housing, self-help housing, housing counseling, gap finance opportunities, subsidized housing, and homeownership opportunities. HUD Partners, including LaClinica, Habitat for Humanity, local Housing Authorities, City Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) staff, and lenders, provided information to attendees.

The Tri-Cities is one of the fastest growing areas in Washington. With the community's interest in homeownership and small business opportunities, HUD's program information on fair housing, homeownership, landlord/tenant laws, tenant rights, and our web site were in hot demand. These types of events are excellent opportunities for community outreach, so if you get the chance, you should attend, to learn more about what HUD and our partners can do to help you.
