Margaret Salazar Joins HUD as Regional Administrator in the Northwest

SEATTLE - President Biden announced the appointment of Margaret Salazar to serve as HUD Regional Administrator for Region 10, serving Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. Regional Administrator Salazar will oversee HUD operations, including a Seattle Regional Office and three field offices - one each in Portland, Boise, and Anchorage.

"Regional Administrator Salazar brings a wealth of knowledge to her role, and we look forward to welcoming her back to HUD," said HUD Office of Field Policy and Management Assistant Deputy Secretary Michele Perez. "She deeply understands the issues and opportunities at the regional level and along with her keen housing expertise she brings a great deal of compassion that will benefit HUD and our stakeholders."

Salazar is a long-time housing advocate and currently serves in the cabinet of Oregon Governor Kate Brown as the Executive Director of Oregon Housing Community Services (OHCS), the state’s Housing Finance Agency. During her five-year tenure at the helm, OHCS tripled its production of affordable rental housing, created nearly 1,000 units of Permanent Supportive Housing statewide, deployed $500 million in emergency rental assistance, passed legislation to expand racial equity in homelessness programs, and expanded mortgage lending to homebuyers of color.

Prior to her leadership at OHCS, Salazar previously served in leadership roles in HUD Headquarters, where she stewarded the Rental Assistance Demonstration and financed the recapitalization of hundreds of properties while safeguarding affordability for thousands of vulnerable seniors and families.
