HUD Awards More Than $19.5 Million to Provide Housing and Services to Homeless Individuals and Families in Wisconsin

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Mel Martinez announced homeless assistance grant awards totaling more than $19.5 million for local housing and service programs in the State of Wisconsin. $16.7 million in Continuum of Care grants were awarded to provide permanent and transitional housing for homeless persons, coordinated with job training, health care, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, child care and other services. In addition, $2.8 million in emergency shelter grants were awarded to the state of Wisconsin and to the cities of Milwaukee, Madison and Racine for homeless shelters and related social service and prevention programs. Milwaukee Field Office Director Del Reynolds presented Certificates of Award to several homeless service providers during a special awards program at Wisconsin Correctional Services in Milwaukee on January 15, 2003.
