MILWAUKEE GREENWAY PATH TO JOBS & HEALTHIER LAKE MICHIGAN
Local, state & federal agencies working to transform blueprints to reality

MILWAUKEE - There's a new blueprint for the 30th Street Corridor in Milwaukee, Wisconsin that includes a layer of green infrastructure, strategically placed to reduce water pollution and the risk of flooding, a combination that will help make the corridor more sustainable and attractive for investors who can revive its economic engine and create jobs.

"I believe this project can and will happen," said Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett. "We have valuable experience invigorating the Menomonee Valley with a similar approach. Our resolve to improve that part of the city resulted in 35 companies building new facilities and creating 4,700 jobs."

Early in his administration, President Obama directed federal agencies to work together more closely and build on one another's investments and policies for greater results than any single agency could on its own.

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is one of many agencies collaborating with Milwaukee to move the 30th Street endeavor from drawing table to construction.

"This Strategic Partnership is key to our region becoming sustainable and competitive in the world market; it is exactly what the president envisioned", said Antonio R. Riley, HUD's Midwest Regional Administrator.  "I have used this approach several times and have seen the results of multiple federal agencies working together with state, local and private partners to create a synergy that is more powerful than each working individually. Today's meeting is a great start."
