Governor Signs Proclamation Declaring "The Homeless Count Day."

Wyoming Governor Mead signed a proclamation that January 22, 2014 is
Wyoming Point in Time Day.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development is responsible for providing an annual report to Congress that details the extent and nature of homelessness in the United States. It provides counts of the homeless population and describes their demographic characteristics and service use patterns.

GOVERNER'S PROCLAMATION

WHEREAS, homelessness is a complex problem involving mental health, medical care, substance abuse, housing and employment; and

WHEREAS, there are people living in Wyoming who are homeless and have no permanent place to call their own, and are therefore lacking the stability needed for a happy, healthy, productive life; and

WHEREAS, the homeless in Wyoming are found downtown, in shelters, hospitals, veterans' centers, foster homes and prisons; and

WHEREAS, in Wyoming, we are unsure of the number of people and families who are truly homeless; and

WHEREAS, to begin to address this problem in Wyoming, it is imperative to accurately count the number of people across our state who are homeless.

NOW THEREFORE, I, MATTHEW H. MEAD, Governor of the State of Wyoming, do hereby proclaim January 22, 2014 as

THE HOMELESS COUNT DAY

in Wyoming.
