HUD AWARDS $3 MILLION TO INSTITUTIONS OF HIGHER EDUCATION FOR STUDENT PROGRAMS IN COMMUNITY PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT
Over $3 million has been awarded to 25 colleges,
universities and area-wide planning organizations throughout the
nation, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development
(HUD) announced today. The funds will be used to attract and
educate over 100 disadvantaged and minority students for careers
related to community plannning and development.
"The Community Development Work Study Program (was linked to http://www.oup.org/cdws.html) is important
because it both assists disadvantaged students receive an
academic degree and trains the next generation of community
development professionals," said Secretary Henry Cisneros. "This
is particularly important as HUD is reinvented and decisionmaking
devolves to the state and local levels," Cisneros said.
Responding to the needs of the grantees, these awards are
being issued in time for the beginning of the upcoming fall
semester.
