Over $3 million has been awarded to 25 colleges, universities and area-wide planning organizations throughout the nation, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced today. The funds will be used to attract and educate over 100 disadvantaged and minority students for careers related to community plannning and development.

"The Community Development Work Study Program (was linked to http://www.oup.org/cdws.html) is important because it both assists disadvantaged students receive an academic degree and trains the next generation of community development professionals," said Secretary Henry Cisneros. "This is particularly important as HUD is reinvented and decisionmaking devolves to the state and local levels," Cisneros said.
