CUOMO RECOGNIZES HUD DAY CARE CENTER 20TH ANNIVERSARY

WASHINGTON - Today, on its 20th anniversary, Secretary Cuomo recognized HUD's day care center - the Creative Child Development Center which was the first day care center established in the federal government and instrumental in helping other centers get established.

Secretary Cuomo said, "Care of preschool age children is of paramount importance to working parents. The President has made child care an important part of his domestic agenda. I am pleased to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the very first day care center established in the federal government."

The Center is self-supporting, run by a Board of Directors comprised of the Center Director, parents and friends. HUD's day care center currently has the highest tuition- assisted families of the federal day care centers. All proceeds of HUD's recycling program are donated to tuition assistance for HUD employees which has totaled $121,000 over the last three years. There are 50 children enrolled in the day care center and it is currently working towards renewing its accreditation.
