The community space available to residents will be designed for use by the visually impaired.

These and other supportive services will help prevent premature institutionalization of the elderly.

The funds will be used for the construction of an apartment complex consisting of 38 one-bedroom units designed especially to accommodate the needs of the elderly. Four of the 38 units will also accommodate persons with disabilities. The design and layout of the buildings will strive to create a village concept. The buildings will be clustered to minimize the amount of concrete surfaces and provide privacy for the tenants. As many trees as possible will be retained on the site to utilize natural shade and additional landscaping will be provided to enhance the setting.

The funds will be used for the construction of an apartment complex designed especially to accommodate persons with physical and/or developmental disabilities. The complex will consist of 18 separate apartments with a community room and garden area to allow occupants to participate in physical activity. This complex will give the residents access to safe, affordable, and accessible housing. The well-maintained housing will also be a benefit to the immediate area.

The funds will be used for the construction of a three-story 22-unit apartment building designed specifically for persons with physical disabilities. There will be 16 one-bedroom units and six two-bedroom units and one centrally located elevator for ease of resident access. Virtually all aspects of the building's products, appliances, equipment and hardware will insure maximum usability by persons with various physical limitations. All apartments will be designed to be flexible and adaptable to specific resident needs. It will also include a multi-purpose community room for meetings and community functions and there will be a patio area with a roll under accessible picnic table and a gas grill for ease of access by residents. This housing will allow the residents to live independently in safe, affordable, and accessible housing.

There is no housing currently available in this area dedicated to independent living for persons with chronic mental illness. Such housing will also greatly increase the effectiveness of current treatment programs for people with chronic mental illness.
